BIO

Autumn was born and raised in the North Lake Tahoe area. Her musical education began at the age of six, when her parents signed her up for piano lessons. At nine, Autumn picked up the viola, and became infatuated with the instrument. Viola became her primary focus throughout her youth, and she dove hard into her classical music studies. When it was time for college, Autumn was accepted into Oberlin, where she began studying classical guitar and experimenting with songwriting. She also explored audio engineering, musicology, and composition. After college, she moved to Asheville, NC where she started her own teaching studio, while playing viola with the Brevard Philharmonic and performing solo gigs as a singer/songwriter. She is now back in North Lake Tahoe, teaching music for a local non-profit, dabbling in the classical music world, and reestablishing herself as an artist in the place she calls home. While in Tahoe, Autumn has played viola with the Reno Philharmonic, Tahoe Symphony Orchestra, The String Beings, and Michael Bolton.

As a songwriter, Autumn  writes folk music that is dark, sweet, and peppered with the unexpected. Her songs flash the lyrical wit of Joanna Newsom, mixed with the folkloric realness of Joni Mitchell, shot with a heavy dose of impressionist harmony. In addition of to Mitchell and Newsom, Autumn Burnett draws influence from Big Thief, Ravel, and traditional music from the Americas and Eastern Europe. Her eclectic yet down-to-earth vibe makes sense, yet never stops asking questions.
